Hello! My name is Harryanto Winsen, and welcome to the first blog post on this website. I decided to start blogging to share my game development journey. I used to do this in video format, but I think writing suits me better.
You may know me as the developer of Nithe, an action-roguelike game with no dialogue to tell the story. I have an announcement regarding Nithe.
I am postponing the development of Nithe until an uncertain amount of time.
Let me explain why.
To continue the development of Nithe, I need 2D animators because I want to include frame-by-frame animations to tell the story.
While I could drop the animations and make something simpler, like sliding images, I don't want to. I don't think I, the developer, would be happy with that outcome.
I plan to get enough money to hire animators or gain enough skills to make the animations myself. The first one seems more viable. Drawing is difficult.
To achieve that, I would like to develop new games first before continuing on Nithe again.
The new games would be much simpler and have smaller scopes. Inexpensive-yet-polished bite-size games you can enjoy in one sitting. That's the kind of game I am going to make.
I also now work as a game programmer intern in a local game dev startup company, unpaid. I am grateful and feel lucky enough to get a job amidst the chaos in the industry. Everyone starts somewhere, sometimes from zero.
I hope you can understand this decision. You can support me by following my social media account or subscribing to my monthly newsletter. I will only give you important news.
Thank you, I'll see you soon!
